Borough Market. How we became a part of London’s iconic place.

Never assume that you know your path…

Not so long ago we were sitting in a sunshine by Southwark Cathedral, munching away on delicious paella from Borough Market stall, not knowing that some day we will become a part of this iconic place.

Borough Market has been selling its goods for over a 1000 years. Its history is as rich as the city itself and against all odds it made its way into 21st century unharmed. Located just minutes away from London Bridge, it became a must see destination for tourists and foodie lovers from all over the world. It is a true oasis for those seeking an escape from bustling streets of ever speeding town.

This ancient market welcomes its visitors with a charm of local produce, personal approach of passionate sellers and a smell of home cooked delicacies.

As a tribal species, we are naturally drawn into the clutter of stalls, display of colours and variety of foods. Merging with lazy crowd, brings a sense of peace and reminds us that life exists in a moment. At Borough Market we are allowed to slow down. We have a permission to smell, to taste, to have a personal experience with the goods we buy. All in a surrounding of incredible history ranging from worn out bricks to towering shadow of glass Shard.

As of recent, visitors no longer have to eat their take away standing up. Borough Market now has a dedicated seating area for those who wish to enjoy their meal at the table.

We have been assigned to produce fold away benches and tables, which can be removed at the end of the day. To reflect timelessness of the place, we chose solid oak wood and polished steel. The folding mechanism is entirely of our design and was manufactured to perfection. All finished with a layer of oil for protection and a natural appearance.  With a bowl of noodles and a bright conversation, this place truly comes to life.

But the story does not end here.

We were also asked to provide a total makeover of Borough Market Store. This included building work, new flooring, lighting, furniture, graphics and a new shop front.

The floor was carefully crafted from reclaimed Iroko wood and perfectly blended with hand made Emery&Cie tiles. Old front was replaced with foldable glazed doors and a new signage introduced to the design. As for interior, we went for a rustic look with modern twist. Reclaimed wood perfectly complements rough metal and sleek PLY. For shelving we brought in our flag product - The Brix - industrial looking mesh and steel units, which can be stacked up and connected to create a complete unit.

Upon entry you will be instantly drawn to a desk ant till units made from PLY wood offcuts and finished with high gloss acrylic spray. These two pieces were incredibly challenging to make and required almost a surgical precision. But the finished product is simply stunning and well worth the effort.

As a finishing touch we chose delicate, drop shaped lamps, bringing a ray of warm glow and creating calm atmosphere.

From now on we are no strangers  to this magical place. We became a part of its creation.

We encourage you to turn away from rushing flow of the street and step into the story. Take in steaming aroma of freshly ground coffee and submerge in a gentle vibe of live market.

And if you have time, stop by The Borough Market Store and tell us what you think!
